A press release by the Ministry of Health last week announced a list of twenty more foreign medical schools to be recognized by the Singapore Government and the Singapore Medical Council (SMC).
27 Jul 2006
On 1 April 2006, the Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC), had increased the number of recognised foreign medical schools in the Schedule of the Medical Registration Act from 71 to 100. The expansion of the Schedule is to meet the increased numbers of doctors and clinician-scientists that are necessary to support the expansion of clinical and research activities in the light of continuing advances in medicine, the ageing population, and the development of biomedical research in Singapore.
MOH and SMC are now ready to add another 20 top foreign medical schools to the Schedule. This will take effect from 1 Aug 2006. These 20 schools are from Canada, India, Israel, Japan, South Korea, Spain and the USA. The two top Indian medical schools represent part of our commitment to the Singapore-India Comprehensive Economic Co-operation Agreement (S-I CECA).
