Minister of Health Khaw Boon Wan has allowed depression and schizophrenia to be added to the list of chronic illnesses managed under the Chronic Diseases Management Programme (CDMP). The list currently includes six diseases – diabetes mellitus, asthma, hypertension (high blood pressure), hyperlipidemia (lipid disorders including high cholesterol problems), stroke, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). CDMP allows patients to get outpatient treatment from their general practitioners (GPs) (usually a family physician) and have the fees paid from their Medisave accounts.
The Institute of Mental Health (IMH), also known as Woodbridge Hospital, is a 2,400-bed acute tertiary psychiatric hospital. It has wards for inpatients as well as two specialist outpatient clinics. It has seven clinical departments - General Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Community Psychiatry, Geriatric Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Early Psychosis Intervention and Addiction Medicine. In addition, IMH has three specialised clinics for specific disorders - Anxiety and Mood Clinic, Sleep Disorder Clinic and Sexual Dysfunction Clinic.
Adam Road Hospital (ARH) is a 49-bed private psychiatric hospital providing evaluation and treatment ranging from acute emotional disorders to stress and interpersonal problems. ARH is professionally staffed by psychiatrists, clinical and occupational psychologists, psychotherapists. There are also family, marriage and sex therapists as well as counsellors.

In line with earlier announcements, the Ministry of Health has increased Medisave withdrawal limits from 1st May 2007 for the following :
1. Inpatient limit - increase from $400 to $450 for per diem limit;
2. Day surgery limit - increase from $200 to $300;
3. Inpatient psychiatric bills (annual limit) - increase from $3,500 to $5,000.
